US Election 2012 Live Blog

The campaigns of Barack Obama, the incumbent, and Mitt Romney, his Republican rival, are turning to locally-run offices full of thousands of volunteers to help spread the word about Tuesday's election.

Obama, for his part, has sent in Caroline Kennedy, daughter of former President John F Kennedy, to Virginia to drum up support.

Romney called in the help of John McCain, Obama's rival in the 2008 election, Rudy Giulianim former New York mayor, and Louisianna governor Bobby Jindal in the final days of the election.

Al Jazeera's Patty Culhane reports from Washington.
